Training Hall for Vika IF

Sports association Vika IF in Dalarna wanted a fabric structure in which to carry out their strength training and circuit training. This was because the number of participants in their outdoor exercises classes decreased on days when the weather was bad. As Vika IF strives to have a town that is as active as possible and with the highest number of participants, they saw the need for a training hall. The solution was a campaign hall tailor made for training from Hallbyggarna Jonsereds. Read the interview with Kim Friberg from Vika IF and watch the film about the project below.

Who are Vika IF?

Vika IF is an association that carries out activities ranging from indoor floorball, football to frisbee golf, gymnastics and plastic ball (outdoor floorball). The purpose of the association is to provide the conditions for training and to create an active town where people can feel good. This, in turn, has led to an increased demand for houses in the local area.

What is your role in Vika IF?

I have started the concept Vika Workout with strength training, together with Jennie, Camilla and Malin at Vika IF. This is a mix between circuit and strength training that offers functional outdoor training tailor made to each individual. Vika Workout is based on the individual challenging themself and helping each other instead of comparing oneself and competing against others. Everyone trains on their own terms.

Can you explain the background with the project for your training hall?

We saw a trend that the functional outdoor training lost participants during days with bad weather. Participation was especially low during the winter months when it was cold, slippery and slushy. Our ambition was to get people to train no matter the weather, five sessions a week where everyone is welcome.

There was a fund after the World Cup in Skiing, which we applied for funds from. We succeeded in getting the funds to be able to build the training hall. The purpose of a training hall was to be able to provide the opportunity to train throughout the year, during all seasons, even where there was snow, bad weather and high winds.

The fabric structure is also used for other purposes, such as a meeting place for other events, storage area, rain and wind protection and sometimes even for children’s’ parties. The tent is fitted out with floor decking so that training is always done on a dry surface.

What was the reason why you chose afabric structure as a solution?

Because the ground is located in a nature reserve it was not possible to build a conventional building as we were not allowed to dig or cause any damage to the soil.

Why did you choose Hallbyggarna Jonsereds as a supplier?

We wanted to use a local supplier in Falun that we had personal contacts at. I called Thomas (salesperson at Hallbyggarna Jonsereds), who explained that you had an offer, The campaign hall. I explained that we didn’t have any surplus so I needed to get a great offer. Which he gave us. He made some adjustments so that the fabric structure would suit our business. It was a great collaboration.

Are you satisfied with the final product?

Of course! I am super happy. In the winter we are going to add illumination as we have brought in power to the fabric structure so that we can connect LED illumination or light tubes.

How did communication with us work?

It was great. Thomas has been a great contact and optimised the training hall to suit our needs. For example, good illumination and transparent windows.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

The entire project was carried out by a non-profit organisation and we have no interest in any profits. No-one takes any money from the association and all funds go back to the association.
