Our Largest Hall Delivered to Iceland
A Flexible Solution for Increased Capacity
Earlier this year, Faxaflóahafnir SF completed a new 5,000 m² cruise terminal. Due to increased traffic and the need for greater capacity, the client required a solution that could be quickly established and integrated with existing infrastructure.
The choice fell on an insulated fabric hall from Hallbyggarna Jonsereds — a solution offering flexibility, short construction time, and the ability to adapt to both local conditions and the client’s specific requirements.
Adapted to Icelandic Conditions
The project placed high demands on both safety and construction. The hall is dimensioned in accordance with Icelandic requirements for snow and wind loads, and adapted to the weather conditions that can occur at the Port of Reykjavik.
The delivery includes, among other things:
- Double glass doors with panic hardware
- Smoke vents adapted to applicable fire regulations
- Insulated fabric membrane for a stable indoor climate
- Prepared for additional anchoring with concrete ballast weights in extreme wind conditions
- Integration with the existing drainage system on site
The insulated fabric membrane ensures a comfortable indoor climate for both staff and visitors, while also allowing year-round use of the hall.
Efficient Execution
A key aspect of the project was adapting to the client’s existing infrastructure. The hall is designed to work in conjunction with the port’s drainage system and other facilities, while also being capable of withstanding the climatic loads typical of Iceland.
The delivery marks the largest hall Hallbyggarna Jonsereds has delivered to Iceland to date, and demonstrates the company’s ability to deliver customised hall solutions for projects with special requirements and demanding conditions.
